A Galliano man died Tuesday, hours after his vehicle careened off La. 308 in Lafourche Parish and struck a tree, state police said.

Around 6 p.m. Tuesday, Patrick Johnson, 57, of Galliano, lost control of his 2003 Honda Accord just north of the Intracoastal canal in Larose, veered off to the left of the road and struck a tree, said Trooper First Class Lt. Rodney Hyatt.

Johnson was wearing a safety belt, the trooper said. Acadian Ambulance transported the Galliano man to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with what appeared to be moderate injuries, he noted.

The hospital advised Troop C around midnight Tuesday that Johnson had died from his injuries, Hyatt said.

Although alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the wreck, Hyatt said blood was drawn in compliance with state law, and that it will be sent to the state police crime lab for analysis.

The crash is still under investigation, but no charges are pending, he said.
