For the fourth straight year, the Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center Foundation will hold its major fundraiser entitled “A Night for Goodness Sake.”

The gala will be held Sunday, March 7, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the Houma residence of state Rep. Gordon Dove at 5 Glen Oaks Drive.

“This is our major fundraiser,” said Chabert Foundation board member Linda Ayers. “We’re servicing people from more than just the Tri-parish area. Since the 2005 storms, the whole southern part of Louisiana relies on Chabert for treatment.”

Last year’s event raised more than $94,000, and Ayers said this year’s goal is $150,000.

“The community has been so gracious to us over the years,” said Ayers. “This is our way of giving something back. The hospital provides exceptional care and is staffed with excellent doctors and nurses.”

The foundation will use proceeds to purchase medical equipment for the hospital and to improve the quality of the hospital’s services. Proceeds will also be used to help the hospital meet the high standards required for accreditation for Chabert’s resident and medical student training programs.

Tickets are $100 per person or $150 per couple and they can be purchased the night of the event.

The gala will be a night of fun with food, music, a live auction, a silent auction and a full-service bar.

Copeland’s Restaurant will provide the food. The menu will include many of the restaurant’s popular dishes, including a number of seafood choices in observance of the Lenten season.

Billy Stark and Friends as well as the Yum Yums will provide musical entertainment.

The auction will consist of more than 100 items, including a week’s stay in a Hawaii two-bedroom condominium (airfare for two included), fishing trip provided by Boudreaux’s Marina, LSU footballs, jerseys and other items.

Also to be auctioned off are a three-night stay at a Grand Isle camp, sushi dinner for six prepared in your home by a costumed chef and a golf trip for four at Atchafalaya at Idlewild.

Attire for the gala is dressy casual. Attendees are asked to park in the Concord Shopping Center parking lot where a shuttle to the event will be provided.

“We are really excited and hoping the community comes out and supports this year’s event,” said Ayers. “We’ve had so many generous donations. Now, we’re looking forward to a beautiful night.”
