A 49-year-old man was found shot to death in his home on Gaidry Drive last week in Gray, and Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the incident.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said the Dec. 23 death of Steve Paul Portier has been classified as a homicide. Portier, who had a boat-repair business, was found in his home after someone called police requesting medical attention.

Portier, detectives confirmed, lived alone. The call, they said, was made from his residence.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting death of a man in Gray.

According to police, officers were called to a home in the 300 block of Gaidry Street on a medical emergency call. Officers arrived on scene and found the body of 49-year-old Steven Paul Portier inside the home.

“The Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Portier dead on the scene,” said Maj. Malcolm Wolfe, Terrebonne’s Chief of Detectives. “An autopsy was performed and determined that Portier died from a single gunshot wound to the upper body.”

Portier’s home was a brick, ranch-style house on a quiet street behind the campus of H.L. Bourgeois High School. Relatives could not be reached for further information.

Wolfe said detectives are actively searching for suspects and clues, but gave no information on who might be suspected or why.

Wolfe has asked that anyone with information on Portier’s death call deputies at 985-876-2500.
