A search committee advanced work Friday in its hunt for a new president of the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce.

“I can’t tell you when it is going to be resolved, but the search committee is working,” Chamber Chairman Billy Foster said.

Chamber President Drake Pothier resigned from the position on Oct. 26 and made a career change into the insurance industry. Members of the organization immediately formed a committee and began advertising for the position.

“We are receiving applications,” Foster said. “It may be several months before someone is in place or it could be sooner.”

Foster said the search committee has not placed a timeline on its search, but will likely interview candidates as those appealing to members emerge.

“If we found the right person today it would be great to have them start before the end of the year,” Foster said. “I think with the holidays, trying to schedule search committee meetings [would be difficult]. If we don’t find a candidate in the initial search we will expand the search. That could extend into next year.”

Pothier, 33, joined the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce as president in 2008. Prior to that, he worked with the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce from 2002-06, then the Fort Smith, Ark., Chamber of Commerce until he left for Houma.

Foster did not specify criteria being sought in candidates for the position.
