Houma Police arrested Linest Billiot, 34, of 114 Jennifer Circle, Houma, Saturday evening on domestic abuse charges, a department spokesman said.

Police responded to a domestic abuse battery in progress call at 8:19 p.m., where they found Billiot walking toward the road with his hands in the air, said Lt. Todd Duplantis.

Billiot’s 38-year-old girlfriend, who was standing at the door hysterical and crying, Duplantis said, told officers that the Houma man became very loud during an argument over a family matter that had occurred a few days earlier.

The woman said Billiot began slamming her head against the living room floor and choking her, causing her to blackout, Duplantis said. When the woman regained consciousness, she said Billiot dragged her across the floor by her hair, the spokesman said.

The woman said when her 16-year-old daughter tried to intervene, Billiot grabbed the girl and threw her to the floor also, Duplantis said. When the woman fled into a bedroom to wait for police, she said Billiot broke the bedroom door, grabbed her by the neck and started choking her again, the spokesman said. Billiot picked up the woman and slammed her over the bed, he said.

The Houma man then went into the living room and sat on the couch until police arrived, Duplantis said.

Police spotted several small bumps on the rear of the woman’s head, and the teenage girl had bruised knuckles, which she received while trying to help her mother, according to police. Billiot displayed no injuries, Duplantis said.

Billiot was charged with second-degree battery and simple battery. He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

If convicted, Duplantis said Billiot could face up to five years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
