A Houma man was arrested Saturday evening and charged with second-degree battery after he knocked another man to the ground, injuring his head.

Houma Police spokesman Lt. Todd Duplantis said officers arrived at the 500 block of Elysian Drive in East Houma to respond to a disturbance. Police arrested Dane A. Kemp, 43, of 144 Vivien St., for striking another man, Duplantis said.

The two had been drinking prior to the fight, the spokesman said. The victim struck his head as he fell to the ground, he said.

If convicted, Kemp could face up to $2,000 or 5 years in prison, Duplantis said.
