Houma Police arrested Linest Billiot, 34, of 114 Jennifer Circle, Houma, Saturday evening on domestic abuse charges, a department spokesman said.

Police responded to a domestic abuse battery in progress call at 8:19 p.m., where they found Billiot walking toward the road with his hands in the air, said Lt. Todd Duplantis.

Billiot’s 38-year-old girlfriend, who was standing at the door hysterical and crying, Duplantis said, told officers that the Houma man became very loud during an argument over a family matter that had occurred a few days earlier.

The woman said Billiot began slamming her head against the living room floor and choking her, causing her to blackout, Duplantis said. When the woman regained consciousness, she said Billiot dragged her across the floor by her hair, the spokesman said.

The woman said when her 16-year-old daughter tried to intervene, Billiot grabbed the girl and threw her to the floor also, Duplantis said. When the woman fled into a bedroom to wait for police, she said Billiot broke the bedroom door, grabbed her by the neck and started choking her again, the spokesman said. Billiot picked up the woman and slammed her over the bed, he said.

The Houma man then went into the living room and sat on the couch until police arrived, Duplantis said.

Police spotted several small bumps on the rear of the woman’s head, and the teenage girl had bruised knuckles, which she received while trying to help her mother, according to police. Billiot displayed no injuries, Duplantis said.

Billiot was charged with second-degree battery and simple battery. He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

If convicted, Duplantis said Billiot could face up to five years in prison and a $2,000 fine.

Houma Police seek publics’ help solving Levron Street burglaries

Houma Police are asking residents in the Levron Street area in West Houma to be on the lookout for thieves following several residential burglaries in the area, a department spokesman said.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said two residential burglaries were reported to police on Jan. 5. Once occurred in the 400 block and the other on the 100 block of Levron Street. On Jan. 7, two more burglaries were reported; both on the 100 block of the street, he said. The following day, Jan. 8, burglars revisited the home they’d broken into on Jan. 5.

Duplantis said burglars are taking a variety of items including digital cameras, blankets, printers, computers and jewelry. They gain access into the homes by kicking in the rear or front door of the residence, he said.

Houma Police are asking residents to report any unusual activity in their neighborhood at (985) 873-6371.

LPSO, LWF agents arrest illegal deer hunter

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies and state Wildlife and Fisheries agents arrested a Bourg man Friday for illegally deer hunting.

LPSO Public Information Officer Larry Weidel said Ned Michael Dantin, 38, of 4434 Hwy. 24, was arrested shortly after he was spotted leaving a private hunting lease on La. 24. Deputies tracked down Dantin through the license plate number off a truck he was picked up in and using a damaged cell phone, Weidel said.

A Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy assisted in tracking Dantin down, he said.

Dantin told law enforcement authorities that a friend had given him permission to hunt on the land, Weidel said. Dantin said he had been dropped off at the site around 4:30 a.m., and was picked up around 7:30 a.m. after he killed an 8-point deer, the spokesman said.

Dantin told deputies that he dragged the deer to the road and, shortly after, his friend picked him up, Weidel said. The Bourg man told deputies he gave the deer to a friend from Morgan City, but he could not remember the man’s name.

At the South Lafourche Sub-station, Dantin admitted he had hunted the private area earlier in the week and had killed a doe, Weidel said.

He was placed under arrest and charged with criminal trespassing. State Wildlife & Fisheries agents also cited Dantin for failure to comply with a deer harvest card and possession of an illegally taken deer, Weidel said.

If convicted, Dantin could face up to a $500 fine and 30 days in jail on the criminal trespassing charge. If found guilty of possession of an illegally taken deer, Dantin could face additional fines, including a $350 fine and 60 days in jail for taking a deer from a privately-leased area that was under a “deer management program,” Weidel said.

Dantin, whose prior arrests include theft, receiving stolen things, contempt of court, aggravated battery and a drug charge, was released on a $100 bond, Weidel said.

An investigation in this case is ongoing, the spokesman said, and additional charges may be filed.
