During an off-duty detail at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center, Houma Police Officer Travis Theriot prevented an early morning break-in at the facility Friday, a department spokesman said.

Alarmed by the noise of a door rattling, Theriot spotted a man on a bicycle slowly riding by the door, looking through the windows of the civic center, Lt. Todd Duplantis said.

When Theriot tried to stop the mannGlenn Eric Verrett, 41, of 285 Grand Caillou Rd., Houma n for question, the cyclist tried to ride away, Duplantis said.

When Verrett fell and then tried to remount the bike to ride off, Theriot and back-up officers were able to apprehend him, the spokesman said.

Verrett was arrested for criminal trespass, resisting an officer and an outstanding warrant for child support, Duplantis said. He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail to await trial or bond.
