Traveling from the east to the west side of Houma today? Expect delays.

The Houma Tunnel will be closed today from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday, and again Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday for cleaning and regular maintenance, according to the state Department of Transportation and Development.

Barricades will prevent motorists from using the underground portion.

The Houma Navigational Canal twin spans will serve as an alternate route for those seeking passage to the opposite side of the city. Access through the tunnel will be limited to emergency vehicles and cleanup crews, officials said.
