The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality said it is encouraging residents in Isaac’s path to report illegal dumping to local law enforcement.

The DEQ said in a news release this morning that illegal dumping is dangerous and offenders could be sentenced to a year in jail or face a $25,000 fine.

Illegal dumping includes improper disposal of household or office items, automotive parts, engines, tools, shingles, nails and other items.

To report this offense, the DEQ said concerned citizens can call their contact line at (225) 219-3640.
