An early morning car crash Saturday left a Houma man injured and his wife dead, according to city police.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said Willie Guillot Jr., 28, was seriously injured when his 1999 Dodge Stratus left Bayou Black Drive and struck a utility pole. Guillot was traveling east near the intersection of Cougar Drive around 2:07 a.m. when the incident occurred.

Acadian Ambulance transported Guillot to Terrebonne General Medical Center for treatment, Duplantis said. Guillot’s wife, Shea Ladner Guillot, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only passenger in the vehicle, he said.

Guillot and his wife were both unresponsive on the scene, Duplantis said. Neither was wearing a safety belt.

Duplantis said police believe alcohol use is a suspected cause of the crash; blood tests were performed on Willie Guillot, and have been forwarded to the State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge for testing as per state law. He said police also found marijuana inside the vehicle, which was seized as evidence.

Guillot was charged with possession of marijuana, carless operation, driving under suspension, no insurance and operating a vehicle without wearing a seatbelt.

An investigation is ongoing, Duplantis said, and additional charges are pending.

Police closed the roadway for approximately two hours while officers investigated the crash, he said.
