On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, Terrebonne Parish Council Chairwoman Jessica Domangue chaired her last meeting before assuming the role of District 53 State Representative in 2024.
“It’s a bit surreal to have attended my last council meeting, honestly. It has been an incredible four years,” said Domangue. “If you had asked me five years ago if I would be elected State Representative I wouldn’t have believed you– but life is funny, and God has led me in the right direction.”
Domangue was first elected to the Terrebonne Parish Council in 2019 representing District 5, and was further chosen as Council Chairwoman earlier in 2023. In November of 2024, following a run-off with fellow candidate and council member Dirk Guidry, Domangue was elected State Representative for House District 53. Domangue also works as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is raising two young daughters with her husband, Christopher Domangue.
“We as a council have accomplished so much and faced more adversity than many councils before us,” explained Domangue. “We have experienced so many struggles following COVID-19 and Hurricane Ida alongside personal losses– but we really came together and worked hard to help rebuild Terrebonne Parish.”
Domangue described her work housing displaced families following the destruction of Hurricane Ida as the most rewarding part of her career on council. “There was so much loss and need after the storm, and helping to set up those base camps around towns for families without homes was incredibly rewarding,” said Domangue. “These community members were so grateful to have a roof over their heads and I was proud to help with that.”
As her time on Terrebonne Parish Council draws to a close, Domangue is excited to transition her career to Baton Rouge. “I am so excited for all the projects I will get to work on as State Representative– especially those that have been sitting for a long time, that we can finally move forward with,” said Domangue. “I’m very ready to work with the new governor and new legislature, and think 2024 is going to be a very exciting time for Terrebonne Parish and Louisiana as a whole.”
