Life is quickly getting back to normal for folks in the Houma-Thibodaux area.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office announced this morning that La. Highway 1 is now accessible to folks south of the flood gates in Golden Meadow.

With the road opening, Lafourche Parish has also lifted the mandatory evacuation for residents of that area.

It also will allow Port Fourchon to slowly get back to work, which will save literally millions of dollars in losses our area takes on when the port has to close down.

LPSO says the road is passable and locals can come home, but he urged that they exercise caution when traveling it.

La. Highway 1 to Grand Isle is also accessible, so natives of the island can also begin to return home, as well.
