The Lafourche Parish Registrar of Voters Office has released its early voting schedule for the May 2 election.

Early voting in Lafourche Parish has been set for April 20-25 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at both main offices in Thibodaux, 307 W. Fourth Street, and Galliano, 101 West 112th Street.

Parishwide, residents will be voting on three tax renewals for Consolidated School District No. 1 that gives additional support to the Lafourche Parish School System, according to Deputy Registrar Tammy Wendelschaefer.

The first proposal is a tax renewal for constructing and improving school buildings in the district, including paying the cost of operating and maintaining air-conditioned facilities. The tax levies 7.49 mills, which is estimated to generate more than $4.5 million for a period of 10 years beginning in 2011 and ending in 2020.

The second proposal gives additional support to public schools in Lafourche. The third proposal provides funds to pay the salaries of teachers and all other employees of the school district.

Both taxes levy 7.49 mills for a period of 10 years beginning next year to 2019.

If a voter is not able to cast a ballot in person, on Election Day or during early voting, they may request an absentee ballot be mailed to them. They can visit the Registrar’s Office Web site at www.lafourcherov.org to obtain the request form or pick one up at the main offices.

The request has to be completed and returned back to the office either in person or by mail, email or fax no later than Tuesday, April 28 at 4:30 p.m.

Absentee ballots by mail have to be returned by Friday, May 1.

For more information call the Lafourche Parish Registrar of Voters Office or visit the Web site, which updated information about registration and election will be posted. There are also links on the Web site where voters can see the ballot for their precincts.
