The body of a Larose teen reported missing last Wednesday was recovered from Bayou Lafourche on Friday morning, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.

Fingerprints confirmed the body as 17-year-old Joshua LeBlanc, of 107 West 28th Street, Larose.

According to authorities, an autopsy conducted by the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office was unable to determine the cause of death. Sheriff’s office spokesman Larry Weidel said the agency is treating the case as an accidental drowning.

Toxicology reports will not be finalized for a few weeks.

A passerby near East 23rd Street spotted the floating body Friday shortly after 10 a.m. and called the sheriff’s office, Weidel said.

LeBlanc had been reported missing since 2 a.m. May 28 by his mother.

The investigation is ongoing.
