Lafourche Parish Government’s Office of Community Action began scheduling appointments late last month to assist its utility assistance program applicants.

Due to limited funds, assistance will be provided by appointment only. An exception will be made to residents who are facing a crisis, according to a parish government release.

The release states that any resident who has received LIHEAP assistance in the past six months is not eligible at this time.

Income guidelines that determine eligibility are posted on the parish website www.lafourche-gov.org.

In order for applications to be processed, applicants must submit the following information: current proof of income, identification for applicant, Social Security cards for everyone in the household, a copy of electric bill and gas bill (if applicable) and one additional bill or communication verifying residence.

The Community Action main office is located at the Mathews Government Complex, 4876 La. Highway 1, Mathews and is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Residents who wish to schedule an appointment can contact the Office of Community Action at (985) 537-7603 or (985) 493-6609.
