During today’s tough economic climate, many non-profit organizations, including the Girl Scouts Louisiana East, have seen a drop in donations.

That’s about to change n for one night, at least.

The Girl Scouts Louisiana East chapter announced this past week that several local restaurants, including two in the Tri-parish area, have agreed to participate in “Scouting for Supper,” on Nov. 18, which will see 10 to 20 percent of restaurant’s proceeds go directly to the non-profit organization.

“We appreciate the restaurants’ support of Girl Scouts through this new fundraising venue,” Vice President of Communications and Fund Development for the Local Council Marianne Addy said. “Hopefully it will help our restaurant partners attract patrons and new clients to their business, while family and friends of Girl Scouts enjoy a great meal that support Girl Scouts. If it’s successful, we plan to hold many more Scouting for Supper events.”

Applebee’s on W. Tunnel Boulevard in Houma and WOW Café and Wingery on 800 North Acadia Rd., in Thibodaux will also honor the event.

Applebee’s will require a flyer to be brought in during the meal. That flyer can be found at www.gsle.org.

At WOW, customers can just advise their cashier that they are supporting the Girl Scouts.

The Girl Scouts want restaurant owners to know it’s not too late to help. If any other restaurants would like to join in the Nov. 18 event, they should contact Carrie Thomas at cthomas@gsle.org or call (504) 733-8220.
