Nominations for the 2009 Angel Award, which honors outstanding volunteer work on behalf of the state’s children, has been extended to May 15.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana hosts the statewide recognition program yearly.

Now in its 15th year, the Angel Award has distributed more than $900,000 to 100-plus charities in honor of citizens’ efforts.

This year, the insurer and its nonprofit Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation are contributing $20,000 to eight honoree’s charities.

Persons interested in nominating an individual for the Angel Award can visit www.bcbsla.com and click on “Community.” Nomination packets are also available by calling (888) 219-BLUE or e-mailing Angel.Award@bcbsla.com.

Testimonial letters, brochures, news articles, photos and videos in support of the nomination are encouraged, but cannot be returned.
