As of July 1, 2010, SWDI LLC, the solid waste management company in Houma, entered into a new transaction with IESI LA Corp. IESI LA has acquired all membership interest of SWDI, according to a document from SWDI president Corey Callais, received by Terrebonne Parish Utilities on July 27. SWDI also services Thibodaux and other areas of the Tri-parishes.

“IESI LA provides containerized collection services to approximately 10,000 Commercial and Industrial consumers throughout the state of Louisiana, in addition to providing household collection to over 300,000,” Callais stated. “IESI is excited to have SWDI become one of their family companies.”

Callais went on to explain the decision to sell to IESI was determined due to IESI’s customer service reputation.

“[It] was determined by … our desire to ensure our customers continue to receive the highest quality Solid Waste and Recycling services available. IESI is also very active in the communities it services, and this another excellent quality shown by the company,” Callais said.

According to Houma utilities director Tom Bourg, the same contract, which is slated to expire July 31, 2013, will remain the same and will not differ in cost.

“We expect the employees to be the same also,” Bourg said. Callais explained Roddie Matherne will become division manager and Donna Duet will become division controller.

“I will remain with the company during the transition period,” Callais said, who added that the Callais family has made the decision to focus on other business ventures for the future.

According to SWDI, IESI has not fully made the transition yet, and more information will develop on the switch over the next month.
