Don Barnes has been named Capital One Financial Corp.’s Louisiana branch and business banking executive, replacing Paul J. Bonitatibus.

With 35 years in the southern banking segment of Capital One, Bonitatibus is serving in an advisory role until his retirement.

Barnes previously worked with JPMorgan Chase. In his new role, he will be responsible for all aspects of Capital One’s branch and business banking in the state, the company announced in a news release.

Barnes has 20 years of experience with Bank One and Chase. He most recently served as Chase’s market manager in charge of branch banking and branch operations for Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Shreveport, Monroe and Alexandria. Prior to Chase’s acquisition of Bank One, Barnes had served as a branch manager, business banker, business banking manager and call center manager in Columbus, Ohio.

“The wealth of experience that Don has will serve Capital One well as we continue to focus on our customers and further build our business in Louisiana,” said Rob Stuart, president of Capital One’s southern banking segment. “Don is a proven leader with exceptional knowledge of branch and business banking.”

Barnes received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and business administration from Franklin University.

Bonitatibus’ retirement will culminate a distinguished banking career that spanned 35 years.

“Paul has achieved remarkable accomplishments during his career,” said Stuart. “Because of his keen understanding of community banking and dedication to customer service, he played a key role as our bank built strong market share in Louisiana and launched our Texas banking segment. We wish him the best in retirement.”
