Houma residents will have a new favorite sports bar and grill this summer.

Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar, voted ESPN Mobile’s Best Sports Bar in North America, recently broke ground on its fifth restaurant at 1795 Martin Luther King Blvd. The restaurant will be the new flagship location.

“We’re home grown from Louisiana,” said Brandon Landry, co-founder and owner of Baton Rouge-based Walk-On’s Enterprises. “We want to first of all thank the community and surrounding area for being as excited as we are.”

Landry said the company has been looking at Houma as a possible new location for a couple of years.

The 8,000-square-foot restaurant will boast the usual Walk-On’s fare: Louisiana Cypress wood, exposed ducting, 70-plus high-definition flat-screen TVs, more than 50 beers on tap, custom pour-your-own table taps, a VIP room and banquet facilities and a beer garden on an outdoor patio.

“It’s going to be a beautiful facility,” Landry said.

The patio area will have retractable windows that can be closed during poor weather or when air conditioning is required, Landry said.

The restaurant will bring between 120 and 150 new jobs to Houma, he said.

“We’ll probably over-hire at first,” the co-founder said. “Houma has a large worker pool to hire from.”

Landry said Walk-On’s in Houma will open its doors by early August.

Houma residents’ trained palate may be accustomed to fine creole cuisine, but Walk-On’s is ready to serve it.

“We hang our hat on our food. We know going into Houma, they’re known for their great cuisine,” Landry said. “We know we have to bring our A-game, but we’re up to the challenge.”

Walk-On’s also has locations in Lafayette and New Orleans.

Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet speaks to reporters about Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar, which will be coming to Houma this summer. The eatery is slated to bring more than 100 new jobs into the community.
