The Bayou Industrial Group will hold its monthly luncheon April 12 at Envie Restaurant in Thibodaux.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., and the program will begin at noon.

Lunch is free for current members of the group.

There will be a $20 charge for guests and non-members, and reservations are required by noon Friday, April 9.

South Lafourche Levee District General Manager Windell Curole will be the guest speaker and will present his speech “It’s NOT Levees vs. the Wetlands.”

“It’s even more important today to understand both of those at the same time, because one or the other is not the best solution for us,” said Curole.

In Curole’s speech, he will argue that in recent years, special interest groups have split up the state’s priorities against each other, and it doesn’t have to be that way.

“Some people want to talk about if you’re for levees you’re against the environment or if you’re for the environment you’re against levees, and it never was that for us,” he explained. “From day one when people first settled in New Orleans, in Louisiana there’s always a flood threat. The trick was always how do we protect ourselves from flooding and minimize the problems on the things that we like on the outside.”
