Bollinger Shipyards has completed another Fast Response Cutter for the United States Coast Guard – the ninth ship of its kind the Lockport-based company has made in recent years.

Bollinger President Chris Bollinger announced the ship’s completion last week, touting it as a great day for the Lafourche Parish business.

The latest creation is named the Kathleen Moore, a lighthouse head keeper for more than 72 years in the 1800s – a woman credited with saving 21 lives during her career.

“We are very pleased with the latest delivery of this high-quality Fast Response Cutter built by the Bollinger team,” said Chris Bollinger in a press release issued last Friday. “Once again, this is another successful FRC delivery that is on schedule and on budget. We are all looking forward to the vessel’s commissioning, as well as honoring and celebrating the heroic acts of Lighthouse Keeper Kathleen Moore.”

The Coast Guard received the delivery of the FRC on March 28 in Key West, Fla. The vessel is scheduled to be commissioned this May.

The Kathleen Moore is a 154-foot patrol craft. It is the ninth creation Bollinger has made for the Coast Guard’s Sentinel-Class FRC program.

To create the vessel, Bollinger touts that it uses a proven, in-service parent craft design that is based on the Damen Stan Patrol Boat 4708.

The FRC has been described as a “game changer” by United States Coast Guard officials who love the vessel’s versatility.
