Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS), based in Houma, recently upgraded its lab facilities by adopting the newest version of LabDAQ Laboratory Information System (LIS) from Antek HealthWare.

The new software will greatly enhance workflow in the laboratory and support true multitasking, according to CIS officials.

The new improvements will allow CIS to keep up with increasing demands placed upon the laboratory during a time of staffing shortages and an expanding need for laboratory services.

CIS officials said the update includes the following features: a comprehensive rules engine designed to prevent errors and assist in decision-making throughout the testing process, rules for ordering tests, test reflexing, billing and result delivery.

Additional reports have been included, and new quality control tools have also been added to support compliance.

“These enhancements to LabDAQ will allow CIS to increase its efficiencies in workflow and profitability while at the same time increasing its proficiency in patient safety,” said Paul Taylor, vice president of sales and marketing for Antek HealthWare.

CIS’s staff includes cardiologists representing nearly every specialty in heart and circulatory medicine. The operation has over 500 employees at its 10 clinics.
