Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center has attained Gold Level status from the Louisiana Health Care Review, the state’s Medicare quality improvement group.

The LHCR awarded Chabert its 2008 Louisiana Hospital Quality Award, making the Houma-based facility only one of 26 hospitals statewide to receive the gold-level award in the last four years.

The award is given to hospitals that have achieved significant clinical quality improvement in three out of four clinical topics for inpatients – specifically in the areas of acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

“Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center is an important provider of health care in the Terrebonne-Lafourche region,” Dr. Michael K. Butler, CEO of the LSU Health Care Services Division, said in a release. “The results achieved at Chabert, which were reviewed by outside examiners, clearly underscore the importance of the hospital to the population it serves.”

Chabert administrator Rhonda Green said, “The gold award reaffirms our role as a place of quality health care. We continually adhere to proven evidence-based practices in our pursuit of the best outcomes for our patients.”

Green said hospital staff work with LHCR quality improvement specialists to improve care.

LHCR CEO lauded Chabert “for achieving measured improvement in patient care.”

“More importantly,” he said, “we know that using evidence-based interventions can save lives, and we applaud the work of Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in its dedication to quality patient care for the people of its community.”
