Edison Chouest Offshore will conduct a job fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Friday at South Central Community College’s Young Memorial Campus in Morgan City. The job fair is supported by the Louisiana Economic development FastStart program.

Job fair representatives seek qualified applicants interested in skilled hourly positions at Chouest’s La Ship shipyard in Houma.

The event targets skilled workers with two to five years shipyard experience, structural flux arc welders, pipefitters, ship fitters, electricians and carpenters. Starting wages range from $15 an hour to $20 an hour. Work shifts are 10 hours.

The Chouest La Ship facility plans to hire 250 to 500 skilled employees in the next six to eight months. Hiring will begin following the job fair, after applicants go through a screening and pre-employment assessment process. Applicants will be required to pass a drug screening and background check.
