Two seminars for businesspersons and a workshop on running nonprofits are being conducted this week in Houma.


A seminar on obtaining credit and managing budgets will be held on Tuesday, April 8, at the Terrebonne Parish Library Main Branch (151 Civic Center Blvd.) from 6 to 8 p.m. Topics covered will include how to read credit reports and dispute errors; improving a credit score and how to file a complaint, and tracking expenses and influences on spending.


The Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater New Orleans is cosponsoring the event.

A workshop for commercial bankers and mortgage lenders concerning federally guaranteed loan programs will be conducted on Wednesday, April 9, at the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (5056 W. Main St.), Conference Room #2 from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m.

Guest speakers will be Clyde Holloway, Louisiana director of the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development, and Mike Ferdinand, Terrebonne Economic Development Authority CEO.

Guaranteed loan programs for single- and multi-family housing, community facilities, water and waste facilities and business and industry will be discussed at the workshop. Call (985) 873-6890 to reserve seats.

A workshop conducted by the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at Quality Inn (210 South Hollywood Road) from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The seminar will focus on how the state government budget and state fiscal policy affect nonprofits, but it will also cover collaboration between nonprofits and strengthening the climate for philanthropic and volunteer efforts. The difference between advocacy and lobbying for nonprofits will be covered as well.
