Another sign of Houma’s booming economy showed itself earlier this month when Candlewood Suites celebrated its grand opening.

The hotel geared toward extended stay guests held a ribbon cutting ceremony Oct. 2. It is located at 737 Corporate Blvd.

Terrebonne Parish District Attorney Joe Waitz Jr.  and Mary Bird Perkins representatives Amy Ponson and Melanie Rasmusson participated in the ribbon cutting along with owners and representatives of Q Hotel Management, Candlewood Hotels’ management company.

“With what we see going on in the Houma market with oil and gas and construction and some other things being so strong we just saw a need for what’s considered an extended stay property, a property that’s designed for guys not just staying a couple nights but are here for long-term projects whether it be training or construction projects, consultants, those types of things,” said Q Hotel Management Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jason Areng.

Areng said that research showed that there was a need for an extended stay type of hotel in the Houma market because it is diverse, growing, dynamic and a very good business environment.

“We’re happy to be in Houma. We’re excited about the opportunity to bring a different kind of product to the market, a product that’s designed for a traveler that wants really a home away from home,” he said.

Areng added that the hotel is off to a great start and is already beating its projections.

“Candlewood Suites hotels are carefully designed to meet the particular needs of extended stay travelers. Guests will find that the design of our spacious suites and the hotel’s signature amenities will allow them to live comfortably and keep a daily routine similar to that at home,” hotel general manager Phalon Collins said in a release

The hotel also announced a partnership with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at TGMC that will assist in providing housing for patients’ families and participate in fundraising and awareness opportunities for the non-profit organization.
