Houston-based Freedom Well Services has opened a Houma shop and plans to add 50 new jobs with a payroll of more than $11 million.

Operating from 161 Thompson Road, Freedom Well Services offers offshore decommissioning and well service operations. The business was established in May with intended expansion into Terrebonne Parish and has been working on logistics closely with Louisiana Economic Development and the Terrebonne Economic Development Authority.

‘I see a big change coming in this business, said Houma’s Freedom general manager Carlos Beard. ‘We are trying to put together the best equipment and the best people in the business. I love it.

‘We’re getting some players in the market with the up-tick in the oil activities in the Gulf, TEDA Board of Commissioners Chairman Don Hingle said. ‘That’s a good thing for Terrebonne.

Hingle said Houma’s proximity to Port Fourchon and deepwater petroleum operations makes it an attractive offshore alternative to New Orleans and Houston. ‘We’ve got different companies manufacturing tools and materials for the Gulf of Mexico. We’re a natural launching point.
