Barry Landry, M.D., has been appointed to a three-year term as cancer liaison physician for Thibodaux Regional Medical Center’s cancer program.

A board certified general surgeon, Landry is among a national network of more than 1,600 doctors responsible for providing leadership and direction to establish, maintain and support their facilities’ cancer program.

According to hospital spokeswoman Toni Martinez, cancer liaison physicians are an integral part of cancer programs approved by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC).

The Commission on Cancer is a consortium of 46 professional organizations dedicated to improving the survival and quality of life for cancer patients. The commission achieves its goal through standard-setting, cancer prevention, research, educational activities, as well as monitoring comprehensive quality care.

Landry has long had a significant interest in diagnosing and treating patients with malignant diseases. He is also a member of the multidisciplinary cancer committee at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

Thibodaux Regional’s cancer program is the area’s only approved program by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, Martinez noted.

For more information, contact Gretchen Landry, director of Thibodaux Regional’s cancer center, at (985) 493-4787.
