Matthews dentist Dr. Curtis Zeringue was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the 127th annual session of the Louisiana Dental Association last month. The event was held at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

The award is the highest honor bestowed by the LDA and is presented annually to individual members who have exemplified the highest standards of professional conduct in dentistry and have made extraordinary contributions in organized dentistry and their community.


Zeringue has been a member of the LDA, the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Bayou District for over 38 years. He has been a general dentist for 35 years after providing dental services in the U.S. Army for three years. He has served the LDA in many capacities, including serving as the 1994-1995 president; a member of the board of directors from 1981 n 1993; a member of the Legislative Committee from 1988 n 1993; a member of the Council on Insurance from 1974 n 1984 and a member of Peer Review from 1973 n 1975. He is again serving on the LDA Council on Insurance.


Zeringue is also a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, board member for the Louisiana Dental Political Action Committee (LADPAC) and was a member of ADA CAPIR council from 1995-1999. He has been an Ark-La-Tex Academy of Dentistry member since 1996.

As a community leader, Zeringue was a board member for both The Chamber and The Bayou Region and president of Sugarland Country Club.


Additionally, he was general chairman of St. Mary Sauce Piquante Festival for five years, festival board member for 16 years and stand chairman for 11 years. Zeringue also served as gumbo stand volunteer at St. Hiliary’s La Vie Lafourchaise Festival for eight years.

He became a founding member of Raceland Senior Citizens Board 20 years ago, and is a long-time member of CLHS Trojan Club, Lion’s Club, and board member of Sugarland Country Club.

Zeringue also belonged to Sugarland Civic Association for four years, Lafourche First for six years, Pro NSU for 12 years, and has been a member of the Nicholls State University Alumni Association for eight years. He also attended Holy Rosary’s Mexico Mission trip for three years and Restore or Retreat for four years.

He is married to the former Donnell Brannon and he has four children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The LDA’s purpose is to encourage the improvement and to protect the health of the public, to promote the art and science of dentistry and to represent the interests of the members of the dental profession and the public it serves. The LDA is the state’s largest professional health organization for dentists.
