A new Microtel Inn and Suites broke ground at 1801 Martin Luther King Blvd. on Jan. 31.

All Microtel Inn and Suites locations are independently owned and operated. The owner of the new Houma location, Guy Burch, of River Ridge, said he expects to hire 15 to 20 people to staff the new location.

The all-new Microtel Inn and Suites Houma will offer 63 guestrooms on three floors with single, double and suite accommodations. Guests will be offered a number of free amenities including free local and long distance phone calls anywhere within the continental United States, high speed wireless Internet access, cable television and complimentary continental breakfast. There will also be an outdoor swimming pool and on-site fitness center.

“Houma looked like a real strong market. That impression was reinforced when we got down there and everyone was very nice, friendly, and helpful,” Burch said. “We are really looking forward to being part of the Houma Terrebonne Parish business community.”

Burch said he anticipates the majority of his clientele to be “mostly business travelers, who are oil industry related.”

Microtel Inn and Suites are all newly constructed, interior corridor hotels. Microtel is one of the fastest growing hotel brands in the country.

According to Burch, the tentative opening of the new facility is Nov. 1.
