After being told that Terrebonne Parish would receive $10 million from BP to promote and market tourism, government leaders are now appealing to the public for ideas on how to make the most of the money.

Possible uses of the funds could include marketing, advertising, tourism related support, charter or recreational fishing, nature-based events, fairs, festivals and grants to parish-select projects.

“We have a tremendous opportunity to use these funds to showcase the many things that make our parish a great destination,” said Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet. “In my opinion, no one knows our area better and how to best market it than the residents of Terrebonne Parish.”

The tourism funds are being offered in restitution following the April 20 Deepwater Horizon explosion that killed 11 people, released millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, and impacted commercial and recreational business along the Louisiana coast.

Those wishing to submit ideas on how to showcase Terrebonne tourism with these funds are encouraged to contact Doug Bourg with the parish president’s office at 985-873-6401 or tpcgpresident@tpcg.org.
