Terrebonne Parish officials announced Friday that grants for financial assistance are available to residents who had jobs impacted by a federal offshore drilling moratorium imposed following the BP Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill last year.

These grants are targeted toward those workers who were employed by companies directly supporting 33 deepwater rigs that were impacted by the moratorium.

The Rig Worker Assistance Fund is administered by the Gulf Coast Restoration and Protection Foundation, which will accept applications beginning on March 15 and ending May 13. All approved checks are expected to be distributed by June 15.

Grant application packages can be secured online at http://www.gcrpf.org and a hotline for information will be opened on March 15 at 866-577-8141.

Parish spokesman Doug Bourg noted that workers who could be eligible for assistance should begin gathering documentation now to make the processing of their applications go faster.

According to GCRPF documents to go along with applications include pay stubs including year-to-date income for 2009 and 2010, W-2s and 1099s for 2009 and 2010, income tax returns for 2009 and 2010, information related to spousal income, insurance proceeds, unemployment payments, payments from other relief funds and information about average monthly expenses for at least three months between May 16, 2010 and Oct. 20, 2010.
