A fiery crash involving two pickups claimed the lives of a driver in one and the driver and passenger in the other Monday night.
State Police from Troop C said 19-year-old Jason Mayon of Houma was driving a a 1998 Dodge Ram north on La. 24 near St. George Street around 6:30 p.m., at a high rate of speed.
Trooper Evan Harrell said that as the Dodge entered an “S” curve near the St. George Street intersection Mayon lost control. The Dodge rotated counterclockwise, off of the left side of La. 24, crossing “a small grass median.” The Dodge began overturning and ended up in the southbound lanes.
Kendric Prince, 30, of Patterson, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado southbound.
“Prince was unable to avoid the crash and struck the overturned Dodge,” Harrell said. “Immediately following the impact both vehicles became engulfed in flames.”
Mayon, Prince, and a passenger in Prince’s vehicle, Shannon Tassin, 54, of Reserve, were unable to escape, Harrell said. All were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Due to the extent of damage from the fire, troopers were unable to determine if seat belts were used during the crash,” Harrell said.
Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending.  This crash remains under investigation.
