Steven Bossier has been tapped to the LA Workforce Commission for the Bayou Region, Gov. Kathleen Blanco’s office announced.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission serves as a human resource investment council for the state. The 1997 Legislature established the commission. It has been designated as the State Workforce Investment Board relative to the Federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998.

Bossier is the corporate administrative risk manager for Gulf Island Fabrication and its subsidiaries where he is responsible for multiple administrative departments for the 1,800-plus employee multi-state company.

Prior to joining Gulf Island Fabrication in 2001, he served in management for Northrop Grumman – Avondale and Avondale Industries.

Bossier has served several years as chairman of the South Central Industrial Association Workforce Development Committee. The committee has been instrumental in creating the workforce development strategic plan for a conversion and marketing program in the school system, Jane Arnette, SCIA executive director, said in a news release.

“The SCIA Workforce committee has brought together businesses and educators to formulate a workable plan to address the employment needs of this region that will be implemented in St. Mary, Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes. I look forward to serving as the vehicle to address the massive workforce needs for this state, especially the Bayou Region that is currently enjoying the lowest unemployment rate and is in dire need of workers,” he said.

The commission consists of 27 representatives – all selected by the governor – from Louisiana business, labor, education and public service communities, as well as two legislators.

The state’s current approaches for providing workforce education and training will be transformed into a systems approach that meets customer needs and produces a world class workforce, according to its mission statement.
