South Central Industrial Association, a Houma-based industry group, will be hosting two workshops this month.

Meet Your Regulators Day will be held next Wednesday, March 10, at the Houma Municipal Auditorium, 800 Verret St. Registration will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and breakfast and lunch will be served to attendees.

A group of about 35 to 45 agencies will be participating in the event, presenting a variety of changes that are bound to take place in the industry sphere. Currently on the agenda are groups like the St. Mary and Terrebonne Port directors, U.S. Customs and Louisiana State Police.

“The world is constantly changing and regulations are constantly changing,” said Willard Robison, director of human resources at Seacore Marine LLC. “This event will give industry leaders the opportunity to meet regulators we deal with on a regular basis.”

More than 100 people are expected to attend the event, according to SCIA assistant director Kathy Doiron.

SCIA will also be teaming up with the Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District on March 12 to host another workshop at Weatherford, 179 Weatherford Drive, in Schriever.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Refreshments and lunch will be served.

Terrebonne’s levee district has designed several flood control structures in conjunction with the Morganza-to-the-Gulf project. The district is currently developing a new project phase to build barges in the Houma Navigational Canal as another source of hurricane protection, according to Jane Arnette, SCIA executive director.

“SCIA is providing a workshop on the requirements necessary to construct these barges,” she said. “This is an opportunity for local regional businesses to learn the rules and regulations for doing business with the levee district on current projects.”

To RSVP for either event, contact SCIA at (985) 851-2201 or e-mail jane@sciaonline.net or kathy@sciaonline.net. Meet Your Regulators Day is free to SCIA members, but admission is $50 per person for non-SCIA members.
