Houma’s Southland Mall is welcoming new and returning tenants. Among a list of retailers and restaurants to open at the enclosed facility is women’s clothing store Maurices.

“We look forward to [Maurices] as an addition and think they will be a good fit for the market.” Southland Mall Manager Dawn Becker said.

Maurices will be located at the former 6,000 square foot Lion’s Share location, in the Mall’s J.C. Penney wing.

Maurices is a young women’s apparel store that carries sizes 1 through 24. “It is moderately priced,” Becker said.

Maurices Store Manager Tara Sutton said her business will open on Sept. 26, with a sneak peak at 5 p.m.

“It kicks off a grand opening sale where you can buy one item at the regular price and get another one at 50 percent off through Oct. 14,” Sutton said.

According to the store manager, Maurices is a national force on the fashion scene, but it’s a community-based retailer.

“Trends are always changing and so are we,” Sutton said. “Sometimes we’ll get new things in as often as bi-weekly. Even though we always have the latest and greatest looks, our prices won’t break your bank.”

Maurices is located in 46 states. The Southland Mall store is one of 50 to open nationwide during 2012.

“We have three other stores that are also slated to open in the fourth quarter,” Becker said. “We have Pro Image, which is sports-licensed apparel. We have Tokyo restaurant and Toys-R-Us Express will be back for the holiday season.”

Southland Mall is adding retail stores and boosting increased business activity. Maurices, Pro Image, Toys-R-Us Express and Tokyo restaurant will be opening in the shopping center on West Park Avenue between now and December.
