For Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, the first, second and third time are the charm when it comes to receiving the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award.

“This is the third consecutive time we have received this award, and it is given in three year intervals,” said TRMC CEO Greg Stock. “This is a great award, the best of the best. I think of this as our third time at the top, and it’s another top quality award for Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

“The bottom line, this means great care for our patients and a high quality cancer care. I appreciate the efforts of the doctors, staff members and board for working together to achieve this award.”

The award recognizes cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients, and hospitals are rated on more than 25 standards. Of these standards, a physician surveyor looks at seven criteria to determine the full scope of a hospital’s cancer program. These six areas where the criteria are drawn from are: cancer committee leadership; cancer data management; clinical management; research; community outreach and quality improvement.

The hospital was also one of four hospitals in six states to receive the award.

“This is a symbol of the hospital’s quality in cancer care,” said TRMC Cancer Center Director Monica Sanchez. “We must go above and beyond in those seven different areas to qualify for the award.

“This is very exciting time for the cancer center.”

Shea Austin, a health initiative representative with the local American Cancer Society office also presented Stock with the hospital’s community champion award.

“Congratulations to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center for their achievement and community champion awards for its fight against cancer in the community,” Austin said. “I am excited to be here to support the hospital just as they support the American Cancer Society.”

“The American Cancer Society recognizes outstanding community engagement,” said Terry Birkhoff, state vice president of the American Cancer Society. “This is not an easy award to obtain. The American Cancer Society is honored to partner with Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. This award speaks highly of their community outreach and the dedication of the staff at the hospital.”
