A veteran law enforcement officer who touched many lives in Terrebonne Parish died of natural causes over the Easter weekend, and is being mourned by both fellow officers and civilians whose lives he touched.

Capt. Ronny Dyson, of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, was reported to have had a heart attack at his home.

As a patrol officer, a bailiff in the Terrebonne Parish Courthouse and a warrants supervisor, Dyson earned a reputation for working cooperatively with community leaders and citizens.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said word of Dyson’s death was a blow.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of one of our brothers,” Larpenter said. “Ronny was a loyal employee who dedicated the last 24 years of his life to serving this department and the people of this parish. He was well-respected and will be missed by all who knew him.”

The 66-yer-old Dyson began his law enforcement career with the Natchitoches Police Department, which he served from 1971-79.

He began his work in Terrebonne as a patrol officer in 1990 and transferred to the warrants division in 1993, becoming its supervisor in 2008.

Dyson was also supervisor of the court bailiffs and has been a court liaison since 1993.

A wake is scheduled for today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Chauvin Funeral Home, with services tomorrow at 10 a.m.
