An eight-month undercover police investigation into a crack cocaine organization in Lafourche Parish reached its peak this week when 33 people were taken into custody for drug-related offenses.

The investigation was dubbed by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office as ‘Operation Crackin’ Down’, and it pooled members of the LPSO and also authorities in other local, state and federal agencies.

The organizations split into six teams on Friday morning and fanned out across the parish to round up several suspects throughout the parish.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Group 12 conducted the operation.

According to the LPSO, the investigation included 79 cases with 45 suspects involved. It was targeting street level-to-upper level dealers, according to LPSO.

Webre said the round-up sends a clear message to criminals.

“Don’t think we are not watching,” Webre said. “Just because you don’t see an arrest every week doesn’t mean you’ll be able to continue to operate in this community.”
