The Terrebonne Parish School Board voted to install donated stadium lights at Terrebonne High School’s baseball field at its Dec. 19 meeting.

The stadium lights were donated by the Major League Baseball organization.

The board initially considered delaying signing an agreement with the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, which was going to charge the school board $5,300 to install the lights, not including the electrical service charges.

Superintendent Ed Richard had planned to request any infrastructure charges be waived and the electrical services to be billed at a residential rate.

Board President Clark Bonvillian recalled South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association offering to install the lights at no charge to the school board. “I would hope that the parish government would meet the offer,” he said.

After some discussion about legal concerns with the parish government installing the lights, District 7 representative Roger Dale DeHart presented the board with a substitute motion to have South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association install the lights.

The substitute motion passed 7-1, with District 4 board member Rickie Pitre voting the lone no vote.

District 2 board member Gregory Harding was absent.
