A Houma man was arrested Monday morning after screaming and running down the halls of Honduras Elementary School in search of his son, Houma Police said.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said police were dispatched to the school on Grand Caillou Road at 10:16 a.m. after a man reportedly entered the school and created a disturbance.

Columbus Andrew Racine, 49, of 121 Mahler St., was arrested as he walked out of the main entrance of the school, the spokesman said.

Administrators told police Racine entered the school and began screaming at the secretaries, Duplantis said. The Houma man, who appeared to be high on some type of illegal narcotic, screamed his son’s name as he ran down the hallways, opening classroom doors and searching for his child, police said.

The principal told Racine several times to calm down and leave the school, Duplantis said. When the man did not respond to the principal’s request, the police were called.

Racine was arrested for disturbing the peace and entering and remaining after being forbidden. He was transported to Terrebonne Parish Jail, where he is awaiting trial or bond.
