A quick-thinking shopper helped Houma Police arrest the man who struck another vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Grand Caillou Road and fled the scene Monday, a department spokesman said.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said police were called to the parking lot at 7 p.m. Monday. A woman told officers that she found a note on her windshield when she returned to her car after shopping in the store from the witness of the crash, he said.

When police contacted the woman, she said as she was parking her ca she saw a gold F-150 Ford tuck back from a parking space adjacent to the victim’s car, Duplantis said. The truck hit the car and the left, traveling north on Grand Caillou Road, he said.

The witness was able to copy the license plate number, which she passed on to police, the spokesman said.

Duplantis said the car was registered to Patricio Reyes, 26, of 104 Gertie Court. When police went to Reyes home, they found the truck, which had minor damage on the front right fender and bumper, he said.

Reyes was arrested for hit and run driving, operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the U.S., and no driver’s license.

He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail where he awaits bond or trial.
