Houma Police arrested a local man Thursday for allegedly stabbing his wife in the foot with a kitchen knife, a department spokesman said.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said officers responded to a disturbance at 121 Mahler St., at 1:49 p.m., involving an intoxicated man. Police learned Columbus Andrew Racine, 49, had stabbed his 45-year-old wife in the foot with a kitchen knife during an argument.

Duplantis said the woman refused medical treatment; she told police she would go to the hospital later.

Racine was highly intoxicated and his speech was heavily slurred, the spokesman said. Racine was charged with aggravated battery. If convicted, Duplantis said he could face up to a $5,000 fine and 10 years in prison.
