A Napoleonville man was critically injured Saturday when he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle, according to officials from State Police Troop C.

Frederick Breaux, 33, was crossing La. 1 in the Bertrandville community when he was almost struck by a northbound vehicle. The vehicle was able to stop just before hitting Breaux, Trooper First Class Rodney Hyatt said.

Breaux paused on the centerline of the road and continued across where he was hit by a southbound car witnesses reported to State Troopers. Witnesses describe the car as a light colored Chrysler, Hyatt said.

The Chrysler continued south after hitting Breaux, and troopers recovered a driver’s side mirror from the vehicle, he said.

Hyatt said alcohol is suspected on the part of Breaux. Blood was drawn, as required by state law, and will be sent to the State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge for analysis, the trooper said.

Transported by Acadian Ambulance Service, Breaux was taken to Assumption Community Hospital, Hyatt said. Charges are pending in the hit-and-run, while Trooper Justin Chaisson is investigating.

State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the light-colored Chrysler with a missing driver’s side mirror. If anyone has information, contact State Police Troop C in Gray at (985) 857-3680.
