Houma’s Regional Arts Council will host its fourth outdoor movie Thursday at Bayou Terrebonne Memorial Park, across from the Waterlife Museum, 7910 Park Ave., in Houma.

The group will show 1929 Ukrainian flick, “Man with a Movie Camera.”

This film is about urban life in the United Kingdom and other Soviet cities.

Soviet citizens are filmed working day in and out with modern day machinery, as well as interacting with each other at work and at play.

“Man with a Movie Camera” is famous for its range of cinematic techniques.

In this flick, film director Dziga Vertov invented and developed a self-reflexive style of filming using double exposure, fast motion, slow motion, freeze frames, jump cuts and split screens.

“It’s an interesting art oriented films. It has interesting special efforts that were before the time of computer animation,” arts council spokesperson Andrea Duprene-Cenac said about the film choice.

The Houma Downtown Development Corporation is funding the showing.

The free public outdoor movie presentation begins at 7 p.m.

Moviegoers can bring lawn chairs, but seating will be available on the park amphitheatre steps.

Adverse weather or other circumstance may change the date of the screening.

For up-to-date schedule information, Duprene-Cenac advises people to call (985) 873-6367.
