AGE: 61

TOWN: Morgan City

FAMILY: Husband Frederick and two children.

PROFESSION: Self-taught artist and nature photographer

HOBBIES: Piano, sewing, crafting, cooking and baking.

WHAT IS A TALENT THAT YOU HAVE THAT FEW PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT?

I enjoy singing … karaoke.

IF YOU HAD TO SPEND A YEAR ON A DESERTED ISLAND, WHAT ITEM WOULD YOU TAKE ALONG?

My Bible.

YOU’RE A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR LOTTO WINNER. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

Thank God; hire a wealth management team; visit my daughter in California. Next, my husband and I will create a philanthropic organization that will provide assistance to lower-income women who seek to further their education.

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL? WHY?

My role models were my parents and grandparents. They worked very hard to make life better for their children. There were many times when life just didn’t seem fair, but they always persevered. The message I gleaned from them is, ‘Life is like a big ladder, and every generation that comes into this world is supposed to move up a rung or two.’ In other words, we should leave our families and the world in a better place than we found it.

IF YOU WERE A SUPERHERO, WHO WOULD YOU BE AND WHAT WOULD YOUR SUPERPOWER BE?

I would be ‘Super Woman.’ Instead of just saving people from danger, I’d have my trusty ‘Truth Zapper.’ I’d go around zapping politicians when they’re caught lying. Of course, I’ll need a huge supply of zappers.

FIVE PEOPLE – PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE – YOU’D INVITE TO DINNER?

Dr. George Washington Carver, Clementine Hunter, Frederick Douglas, Dr. Martin Luther King and President Barack Obama.

TV GUILTY PLEASURE?

‘Rick Steves Europe,’ ‘Family Feud’ and the ‘Steve Harvey Show.’

PROUDEST MOMENT?

My proudest moment was when my daughter graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida A&M University and went to work for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

My parents would say, ‘Select your friends wisely. You’re judged by the company you keep. Friends should lift you up, not tear you down. You can do bad all by yourself.’

WHAT’S ON YOUR NIGHTSTAND?

Lamp, the Bible, my Nook, cell phone and a flashlight.

HOW DO YOUR FRIENDS DESCRIBE YOU?

As a goal-setter and someone who works very hard to achieve those goals. My motto is, ‘Where there’s a will, there’s got to be a way.’

WHAT’S ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?

I look forward to visiting Greece, Switzerland, Italy and France sometime in the not too distant future.

DESCRIBE YOUR DREAM JOB.

My dream is to have my own successful, thriving art gallery in a place like the New Orleans Riverwalk.
