Terrebonne and Lafourche residents passed a combined total of 10 millages during yesterday’s midterm elections. Lafourche Parish residents also settled runoffs between School Board and the parish Port Commission candidates at yesterday’s polls.


In Terrebonne Parish, three millages were approved parishwide by the public’s vote: 11.21 mills for sanitation passed with 76 percent of the vote; and a 7.31 mills passed with 77 percent of the vote for drainage. Another 5.33 mill passed parishwide with 85 percent of the vote for the Terrebonne Association for Retarded Citizens.


Two 5.08 mills were renewed to support police and fire protection in the city of Houma with 81 percent voting in favor.

Both road-lighting district’s millages n 3.99 mills for District 2 and 4.75 mills for District 4 n were renewed with 81 percent and 76 percent of the vote, respectively.


Road District 6 renewed an .82 mill with 74 percent of the vote.


And a 15 mill property tax was renewed to provide funding for the Bayou Black Fire Department with 80 percent of the vote.

In Lafourche Parish an 8.45 mill was approved with 85 percent of the vote for Fire Protection District 4.

Runoffs in two School Board districts were also settled with yesterday’s elections in Lafourche Parish. Richmond Boyd Jr. beat out Eva M. Shanklin in District 3 with 54 percent of the votes, and Julie Breaux won over Loretta Duplantis in District 9 with 58 percent of the votes.

Three divisions of the Greater Lafourche Port Commission were facing runoff elections as well: Harris “Chuckie” Cheramine Jr. won over Iris Doucet with 51 percent of the votes in Division A, and Jimmy Guidry beat out Jimmie “Beau” Martin with 55 percent of the votes in Division H and in Division C, Jimmy “T Jim” Lafont was elected over Bryan Duet by 51 votes.

Also in Lafourche, the public approved a one-cent sales tax for levee funding with 83 percent of voters in favor of the tax.
