The Morgan City Police Department reported the following arrests on Jan. 30 within the city limits:

• Gary L. Draper, 42, of Brashear Avenue, Morgan City, was arrested at 1:22 p.m., and charged with appearing in public while intoxicated.

Authorities said Draper was located at a La. Highway 182 business and taken into custody after he was identified as intoxicated. He was booked by the MCPD.


• Kelton J. Smith, 17, of Murial Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 5:50 p.m., and charged with use of tobacco in a jail facility.

Authorities said that Smith was already in the Morgan City Jail for a previous offense. During a check-in with guards, Smith was found to be using tobacco products in the complex, which is prohibited by a city ordinance. He was charged and remains booked.

• Jeffery A. McCracken, 48, of River Road, Berwick, was arrested at 10:11 p.m. and charged with appearing in public while intoxicated and resisting an officer.


Deputies patrolling high crime areas in Morgan City said they observed a suspicious suspect in an area known to have narcotics complaints. Authorities said they approached the suspect and identified themselves to begin an investigation. Upon seeing the officers, MCPD said he fled on his bike before crashing and attempting to flee on foot.
